Some discoveries begin with a journey.
Ours took us to Morez, high in the mountains of the Jura, to a place where the history of French eyewear is still deeply rooted. Here, we entered an extraordinary lunetterie and were welcomed by Monsieur Philippe Girod, le Directeur, and his family, with a warmth that made us feel, from the very beginning, as if we were part of their own.
It was there that we discovered these extraordinary frames.
We selected them personally, one by one, by hand. Pieces that had not been forgotten, but quietly remained hidden, small treasures waiting to be rediscovered.
Each one carries something of the remarkable world from which it comes: the culture of French craftsmanship, the elegance and nostalgia of an old Europe, an almost forgotten idea of making things, and at the same time a vision that feels unexpectedly close to the present.
Gouverneur Audigier is one of those rare names that reminds us that eyewear can be much more than an object to wear. It can carry culture, imagination, craftsmanship and memory.
These are frames that tell stories without needing to explain themselves.Together, they reveal a world of extraordinary creativity, a world in which the past does not simply remain behind us, but continues to suggest new possibilities.
The luneterie was established in 1878 by Clément Gouverneur, in Morez, in the heart of the Jura Valley, the cradle of French eyewear, and for more than 150 years, generations of highly skilled craftsmen have continued to produce exceptional frames, preserving the manufacturing traditions and savoir-faire of the lunetterie, while carrying forward the passion of its founder.
The manufacture has been awarded the French Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label, a distinction recognising companies that embody exceptional craftsmanship and industrial excellence.
